Social Media & Online Safety

Social media is a big part of our lives. Many times it is how we socialize and meet new people. It can be very beneficial and at times it can cause emotional, physical, financial and legal problems. Sexting can lead to lots of legal issues for the sender and the receiver, and there’s no guarantee that your pictures will remain private. Because they can remain anonymous, some people pretend to be someone else online and may have bad intentions.

In order to help protect yourself online:

  • Make your profiles private

  • Don’t post inappropriate or sexually provocative pictures or comments

  • Don’t respond to inappropriate requests

  • Don’t “check in” or post anything that reveals where you like to hang out, go to school, or live

If you are being cyberbullied, you are not alone.  Check out the resources below for help and to learn more.
